Abstract
1,185,852. Valves. TACO HEIZUNGEN A.G. 3 April, 1967 [6 April, 1966], No. 15046/67. Heading F2V. Air vent valve for hot water heating systems comprises a valve member 70 seated on a vent orifice 42 and closed by the expansion of a stack of hygroscopic discs 66 acting on a plunger 58. The discs are wetted when escaping water has collected, through a passage 59, sufficiently in a well 48 open to atmosphere to pass through apertures 74 in a cylinder 56. The device may be combined with a float valve (32), Fig. 1 (not shown), which normally closes the vent orifice before any water can escape, the first valve then acting as a safety device. In a modification, the float (108), Fig. 4 (not shown), is housed in a chamber (100) fitted with a loose square-section inlet pin (106). The float is connected to a lever (112) carrying a valve member (114) tensioned against a seat by a spring (116). The member (70) is carried in a body (122) screwed to the chamber, and which can be partially unscrewed to open a quick vent valve (128) through a cam (124) and pin (126).
