Abstract
1,185,635. Packaging thin articles. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 3 May, 1967 [3 May, 1966], No. 19341/66. Heading B8C. In a machine for inserting thin articles into bags, covers 2 are withdrawn from an open sided box 1 by reciprocal suction devices 8 and held open by flange (26) (Fig. 2, not shown) beneath opening 4 through which an article e.g. a gramophone record is dropped. The cover with the article is then released and is guided by shoot 9 to between a pair of hinged plates 10, 11 and is gripped therebetween. In the meantime a bag or sleeve is removed from a magazine 17 by suction device 63 and fed by rollers to station 16 where it is opened by suction devices 69, 70 (Fig. 4, not shown). The plates 10, 11 with the thin article therebetween are then fed into the open sleeve by reciprocating means 15. The plates 10, 11 are such that a part of the article protrudes clear therefrom and when inserted in the sleeve a plunger 71 is operated to apply pressure to the clear part of the article through the sheet so as to hold the article in the sleeve whilst the plates 10, 11 are withdrawn. The filled sleeve is pushed from the station 16 by an incoming empty sleeve so as to be engaged by rollers and discharged from the machine.
