Abstract
1,211,893. Compressive packaging. H. J. FALBORG. 16 April, 1968, No. 17994/68. Heading B8C. Compressible material, e.g. meat, is compressed by movable walls of a compression chamber, then transferred under pressure to a sleeve, over which a container is placed and filled with the material still under pressure The end plunger-wall can have an outlet 17 for removal of air during compression by a suction pump. The container may be a can which is lined by placing a plastics bag over the sleeve first. The meat 9 is placed in the chamber 1 through its hinged lid 4 and pressure is exerted by plunger-walls (3), Fig. 1 (not shown), 5 and 13. A separating plate 18, with an aperture 20, is moved to permit the meat to enter the sleeve 21 through the aperture, the meat being moved between the plunger-wall 13 and a back-up plunger 22. When the sleeve is full, the plunger 22 is retracted, and a bag and tight-fitting can placed over the sleeve. The plunger 22 then returns to maintain the pressure on the meat and, by unbalancing the force between the plungers 22, 13, allows the plunger 13 to push the meat 9 leftwards out of the sleeve 21. The meat 9 &c. carries the can with it, and as it leaves the sleeve 21, is pushed into the bag and can.
