Abstract

1,185,592. Ink ribbon mechanisms. SIEMENS A.G. 24 April, 1968 [25 April, 1967], No. 19310/68. Heading B6F. An ink ribbon mechanism, associated with a pair of teleprinters the printed output data from which is distinguished by the use of a two-coloured ink ribbon, is provided with an ink ribbon vibrator 14, Fig. 1, which is raised and lowered to two different positions by a drive comprising an oscillating rocker arm 1 which is articulated to the vibrator 14 by a pair of intermediate levers 3, 9 such that the arm 1 and intermediate lever 3 or the intermediate levers 3, 9 can be coupled together by a toggle linkage 15, 16 to actuate the vibrator 14. Short throw.-To lift the vibrator through a short throw a control latch 21 is pivoted with its abutment 22 into engagement with the right hand side of a toggle pin 17 such that when the intermediate lever 3 is rocked anticlockwise between the points B to A the toggle linkage formed by levers 15, 16 is displaced away from an abutment pin 6, Fig. 3, and in consequence of the displacement the intermediate lever 9 is rocked clockwise and its pin 18 allows a locking lever 10 to abut the rocking shaft 2 and lock the intermediate lever 3 with the rocking shaft 2 by means of a stop 8, Fig. 1, which depends from the lever 3. Continued rocking of the shaft 2, up to the point 7, causes further clockwise displacement of the intermediate lever 9 and concomitant anti-clockwise rocking of the lever 12 which is articulated to the ribbon vibrator 14. Long throw.-To lift the ribbon vibrator 14 through a long throw the control latch 21, Fig. 1, is left in its inoperative position in which it is out of contact with the toggle pin 17 and the toggle linkage 15, 16 is prevailed upon by a spring 19 such that the lever 15 is biased into contact with an abutment pin 6, Fig. 5, whereby the intermediate levers 3, 9 are coupled together. When the rocker arm 1 is displaced anti-clockwise by the shaft 2, between the points B to A, the toggle linkage 15, 16 causes the intermediate lever 3 to pivot clockwise relative to the rocker arm 1, whereby the intermediate lever 9 is pivoted anti-clockwise such that its pin 18, Fig. 1, disables the locking lever 10 to prevent the latter from coupling the intermediate lever 3 to the rocker arm 1. Continued anti-clockwise displacement of the intermediate lever 9 causes the lever 12 to be rocked clockwise and its associated ink ribbon vibrator 14 to be lifted through the long throw.
