Abstract

1,184,760. Alkatine earth and/or aluminium silicates. ELEKTROCHEMISCHES KOMBINAT BITTERFIELD VEB. 23 Aug., 1968, No. 40515/68. Heading C1A. Alkaline earth metal and/or aluminium silicates are prepared by continuously combining a solution of a mineral acid salt of an alkaline earth metal and/or aluminium with an alkali metal silicate solution, preferably water glass, with intensive mixing e.g. by a high-speed stirrer, at ambient temperatures, the concentrations of the reacting components being kept constant and the pH being maintained at that value which produces isoelectric conditions. The concentrations of the solutions may be such that the suspension produced contains 10-15% of precipitate, based on product dried at 105‹ C. Isoelectric conditions are maintained either by reacting similar volumes of the two solutions in equal times, one containing a suitable quantity of acid or alkali, or by feeding acid or alkali into the reaction mixture through a feed device operated via a pH probe. The suspension produced may have its pH adjusted to 6-9 by the addition of a solution containing mineral acid or an aluminium salt, and then be filtered continuously, washed, and dried.
