Abstract

1,184,656. Electric heating resistors. JOHNSON, MATTHEY & CO. Ltd. 15 June, 1967 [17 June, 1966], No. 27231/66. Heading H5H. [Also in Division H1] A self-regulating heating element comprises two materials, one of which provides a sheath for a core made of the other, the structure as a whole having a positive temperature-coefficient of resistance. The core material may have a higher temperature-coefficient than the material of the sheath, which is preferably corrosionresistant. Suitable core materials are Fe, Fe alloys, Ni, Ni alloys, Co, Mo, W, Pt, Pd and Ta, a particular example being 70% Ni, 30% Fe (by wt.). Suitable sheath materials include Ni-Cr or Fe-Cr-Ni alloys possibly containing Al, Mn, Si, Cu, Ag or Ti, and Fe-Cr-Al alloys possibly containing Mn, Si, Cu, Ag or Ti. Preferred percentage constituences are specified.
