Abstract

1,184,651. Tunnels. ESCOL PANELS Ltd. 23 March, 1967 [23 Dec., 1965], No. 54701/65. Heading E1F. A tunnel is lined with steel panels each bent within its elastic limit to conform with the curvature of the tunnel wall and having a front face facing the interior of the tunnel coated with anti-corrosive finish such as porcelain enamel. The back of each panel carries a sheet of sound-deadening material. The upper and lower edges of the panels have radial flanges with dowels on a lower flange of one panel engaging holes in the upper flange of an adjacent panel, a seal strip being interposed between the flanges. Adjacent vertical edges of the panels are clipped on top-hat stiffeners fixed to tunnel rings, and the edges are covered by strips.
