Abstract
1,184,503. Hydraulic circuits; steam turbines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 25, 1968 [Feb. 20, 1967], No.3858/68. Headings F1P and F1T. A double-acting fluid motor 2-4 for positioning a steam valve (not shown) in a turbine installation is controlled by a servovalve 6 in a primary circuit 8-14, a secondary circuit 22-32 including a valve 22 for causing operation of the motor in the event of a fault occurring in the installation being connected to the motor so that the primary circuit can be serviced while still providing protection for the installation. During normal operation the secondary circuit is closed by a checkvalve 40 and a valve 30 loaded by a spring 38 assisted by the pressure directed thereto through a line 28 by the valve 22. If a fault such as a turbine overspeed is detected while the primary circuit is isolated for servicing by closure of valves 16, 18, 20, a signal is applied to the solenoid of valve 22. The valve 22 thus changes over allowing the valve 30 to open to exhaust 34 and fluid to pass check-valve 40 and cause the motor 2-4 to close the steam valve.
