Abstract

1,183,794. Furnace for selective annealing. KLOCKNER-WERKE A.G. Sept. 4, 1968 [Nov.28, 1967], No.42100/68. Heading C7N. An annealing furnace for the selective annealing of ground contact plates having one or more ridges is provided with longitudinal hollow rails through which coolant flows, the rails being so formed that the ridges may project into them and be thereby protected from annealing. Preferably the rails are provided with longitudinally extending recesses, the recesses complementing the shape of the ridges. The rails may also have a coating of insulating material such as mineral wool and asbestos. As illustrated, ground contact plate 'b' has a ridge 'a' which is to be protected from annealing; to this end the ridge travels longitudinally through recess 2 of cooled rail 1 as the plate traverses the furnace.
