Abstract

1,182,944. Rope railways. OFFICINE MECCANICHE AGUDIO S.p.A. 21 March, 1967 [24 March, 1966], No. 13314/67. Heading B7L. An aerial cableway installation comprises a carrying cable 1, Fig. 3, for a load carriage 15 movable along the cable 1 by conventional means, one end of the cable 1 being anchored at 2 whilst the other end is vertically supported, by cables 11 fixed at their ends at 12, and movably connected to an anchorage cable 4 by means of a pulley 3, one end of the cable 4 being anchored at 5 whilst the other end passes around a pulley 6 and connected to a counterweight 7. The pulley 3 is movable in either direction along the cable 4 and relative to support cables 14 by a haulage cable 21, Fig. 5, so as to vary the position of the cable 1 over the ground. The cables 11. slidably support a carriage 13, described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown), which is secured to the cable 1. Referring to Fig. 5 the cable 1 is connected to the pulley 3 through a member 16 movable on the cables 14. The haulage cable 21 passes around pulleys 19 on the member 16 and fixed pulleys 25 at each side of the cable 1, the ends of the cable 21 terminating an counterweights 26, 27, the upward movements of which are limited by fixed stops 26<SP>1</SP>, 271. The cable is driven by a winch 28<SP>1</SP> and when e.g. the latter is rotated clockwise, as viewed in Fig. 5, the counterweight rises to abut the stop 261 whilst the counterweight 27 is lowered and the member 16 and pulley 3 are moved to the left. A modified haulage system incorporating an endless cable and two winches drivable in opposite directions, is described with reference to Fig. 6 (not shown). The counterweight 7 is comprised of two weights, interconnected by pulleys and an endless cable, with fixed pulleys. As the pulley 3 is moved along the cable 4, one weight is moved relative to the other but when the pulley 3 is in the desired position that weight is locked in position relative to the other weight by brake means which clamp the endless cable, all as described with reference to Fig. 7 (not shown). Instead of terminating in the counterweight 7 that end of the cable 4 may be fixed and the end of the cable 1 remote from the pulley 3 then connected to a counterweight. If desired each end of the carrying cable is suspended from a respective anchor cable so as to be movable relative thereto and counterweights provided at the ends of the anchor cables.
