Abstract
1,182,916. Moulding foamed articles. HAVEG INDUSTRIES Inc. 13 Jan., 1969, No. 1945/69. Heading B5A. In a process of moulding a foamed thermoplastic polymer composition, the material is extruded into an accumulator zone 8 and allowed to foam and then transferred into a mould 16. Injection may be effected by a piston 10 or by a reciprocable screw, a valve 14 being closed except during injection. The mould may be cooled so as to form an impervious unfoamed skin on the article. The moulded article may be a cup, bottle, bottle closure, shoe heel, shock absorber, button, window frame, level indicator float, doll, toy, ball, bowling pin, buoy, handle or tool. Pigments, fillers and stabilizers may be included in the foamable composition, numerous examples being given.
