Abstract
A hollow play ball, or other hollow, closed article, is moulded from a foamed vinyl resin having a closed cell structure, and incorporating a substantial amount of a heavy, inert filler material. As particularly described, the resin mix comprises polyvinyl chloride as base material, di-isobutyl phthalate and chlorinated paraffin as plasticizers, an azodicarbonamide dispersion as the blowing agent, zinc octoate as a stabilizer, and chalk as the inert filler.ALSO:A hollow playball comprises a wall composed of a foamed vinyl resin, having a closed cell structure. The ball is made by introducing the resin mix, together with a blowing agent and a heavy filler material such as chalk, into a spherical mould, the latter subsequently being rotated to distribute the material about the surface of the mould, and being heated to activate the blowing agent. The mix is then cured in the mould, and the resultant ball inflated and sealed.
