Abstract

Foamable (co)polyvinyl chloride blends with methyl methacrylate as foaming aid Blend consists of (a) 100 (wt.) pts. vinyl chloride resin, (b) 0.5 - 50 pts. copolymer of (1) 30 - 99% methyl methacrylate, (2) 1 - 25% monomer(s) of alkyl acrylate and unsaturated nitrile groups and (3) 0 - 50% aromatic vinyl and (c) blowing agent. These can be used in production of (semi)rigid or flexible foams, with properties ranging from those of wood to those of foam rubber. They can be foamed and moulded using familiar (extrusion, injection and calendering) equipment and at desired foaming rate. Products have fine, uniform pores.
