Abstract

1,182,570. Yarn winding-off mandrel. I. CINIGLIO. 11 Oct., 1968 [16 Nov., 1967], No. 48207/68. Heading B8M. [Also in Division Dl] A yarn winding-off mandrel comprises two conical flanges 7 mounted in axially spaced relationship on a spindle 2, the flanges 7 diverging outwardly and away from each other, and the conical surfaces of the flanges which are directed towards each other slidably engaging in the open ends of a frame 21 which receives a yarn package, the frame 21 being resiliently expansible axially and the flanges 7 being spring biased towards each other so that the conical surfaces bear against the ends of the frame to expand the frame into contact with the interior of a yarn package mounted on the frame. One end 5 of the spindle 2 is smooth and supports a collar 6 for slidable movement thereon, the other end 16 of the spindle is provided with a series of circumferential grooves 17 and supports a collar 18 provided with means for locking the flanges in position. The collar 6 is biased towards a central stop 12 by a spring 9. The other collar 18 is provided with a blind hole 24 housing a spring 25 kept in place by a bent over lug 26 of an adjustable stop member 27 which slides in grooves in the end face of the collar 18. The inner surface of the adjustable stop member 27 engages the grooves 17 to lock the flanges in position and is released by depression of the lug 26. Each collar carries a conical flange 7 comprising inner and outer conical members 14, 13. The frame 21 comprises a continuous spring wire bent in zig-zag form, the bends 23 sliding on the conical surfaces of the flanges 7. In practice, the yarn package is mounted in the mandrel and the frame is expanded to fit the interior of the package.
