Abstract
1,182,164. Hydraulically operated hospital furniture. J. NESBIT-EVANS & CO. Ltd. 20 Aug., 1968 [11 Aug., 1967], No. 36917/67. Heading B8J. A hospital bed comprises a mattress platform 65 raised and lowered by an hydraulic jack unit 60 through linkages 61, 62. The jack comprises an adjustable restrictor valve for controlling release of fluid during descent of the platform. The restrictor valve includes a ball 37 loaded by a spring 38 and is opened by depression of a valve operating rod 42. The degree of opening of the valve to control the rate of descent of the platform 65 is determined by the amount of rotation of a valve actuator 51 screw-mounted in the housing 10 and rotated by a lever 52 actuated remotely by a cable 53, degree of opening being determined by a screw-adjustable stop 50. The restrictor valve may be fully opened by depressing pumpoperating pedal P past its normal limit so that arm 21 operating pump piston 20 engages plate 43 on the valve operating rod 42 to depress it.
