Abstract

1,181,524. Stop motions. LUWA A.G. 8 Aug., 1967 [9 Aug., 1966; 21 Feb., 1967], No. 36400/67. Headings DID and D1F. In a flyer frame wherein the yarn or sliver is sensed between the drawing rollers and flyer and a signal generated (e.g. to operate a stop motion or warning device) on sliver breakage, fault in the vicinity of the flyer head (e.g. the build up of sliver about the top of the flyer or the flailing of a snarl) are also detected and corresponding fault signals generated irrespective of the fact that the sliver is still running. As shown a senser 40 is pivoted at 44 above a flyer head 14 and weighted so as to tend to rotate in an anticlockwise direction. Sliver 15 normally supports arm 43 of the sensor while on sliver breakage arm 43 falls to raise a permanent magnet 42 and thus close a reed switch 50 so as to stop the machine motor and/or operate a warning system; other types of switch may be used. If, as in Fig. 6 not shown, sliver builds up on top of the flyer, arm 41 is lifted to operate switch 50 although sliver 15 is still intact. In a further form Figs. 1-4 not shown, the centre of gravity of the sensor is above its pivot point and it is arranged to tip in either direction depending on whether the fault is a broken sliver or a sliver build up on the flyer head. The sensor will also be actuated by a flailing snarl on the flyer head. Tipping of the sensor may be arranged to close an electrical circuit or to operate a photo-electric switch. Different circuits may be operated depending on the direction in which the sensor tips.
