Abstract

118,139. Mason, R. S., and Martin, A. E. Aug. 10, 1917. Compasses, magnetic.-In a combined magnetic compass and electric pocket lamp in which the compass has transparent covering surfaces and is illuminated from below, the compass 4 is mounted within the casing 8 of the lamp in such a manner that it may be moved over the source of light 9 as desired. The compass may be mounted on a wire frame 12 moving in guides fixed on the cap 11 and projecting through a slot 14. The frame 12 may carry a V-shaped contact which comes into or out of engagement with the contact 16 as it is moved so that the light is switched on or off. The transparent surfaces 5, 6 of the compass may be coloured or replaced by frosted glass or the like.
