Abstract
1,181,107. Topping carrots, &c. MECHRO (WISBECH) Ltd. 22 March, 1968 [22 March, 1967], No. 13447/67. Heading A4C. A machine for topping carrots and the like comprises a tubular carrier 26 into which the carrots are loaded as it rotates in a clockwise direction, together with a flange 14, an arm 25 and a sleeve 10 about the longitudinal axis of a shaft 7, the upper end of the carrier 26 being on said axis and the lower end moving in an orbital path therearound. A shutter arm 33 spring biased against fixed cam 16 is moved out of slot 48 at an appropriate point to allow a single carrot to fall down on to guides 2, 3 which extended through 180 degrees, the shutter then being restored to hold up the remaining carrots. Arm 32, spring biased against cam 15 then moves anticlockwise so that its forked end 51 grips the carrot while it is swept past stationary knife 60, after which the fork is moved out of engagement to release the topped carrot. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,122,806.
