Abstract
1,180,232. Transparent doors for ovens. R. J. QUIGLY. 3 May, 1967 [10 Feb., 1966], No. 5865/66. Heading A4D. [Also in Division H5] A door, or other viewing port, of a microwave oven is a panel 11 of transparent heat-resistant material in which is embodied a metal grille, mesh or lattice 12 to protect the observer against radiation. The periphery of the metal mesh 12 extends at 13 into screening continuity with the conductive frame 10 of metal or metal-impregnated rubber by which the panel is mounted in the oven. The mesh 12 is sandwiched between two glass sheets or is embedded in a glass sheet. Two panels 11, each with a mesh 12, may be provided, Fig. 3 (not shown). Mesh 12 is of wire 0.002 inch in diameter woven at 20 threads per inch, and the end-portions 13 are spot welded between metal strips 14 in a channel 15 of the frame 10, which channel is lined with woven wire 16 making good contact with layers of woven wire 17 embedded in the rubber of frame 10.
