1,179,803. Potato-chip cutter. H. SCHULTE [trading as WESTMARK SCHULTE & CO. K.G.]. 11 July, 1968 [12 July, 1967], No. 33132/68. Heading A4C. A potato-chip cutting device consisting of a stationary cutting grating (9), Fig 3 (not shown), inserted into grooves in the front raised ends 8 of guide plates 4 and a pressure plate 15 for pushing the potato through the grating is driven by means of a ratchet drive mechanism in which the base limb 25 of a U-member engages in the gaps between the two flanks 20 and 27 of teeth 19 and 26 respectively raised on slide 13 and between the pusher plate 15 and said tooth 19. The slide 13 is mounted on the base plate 1 between guide plates 4 and is fitted with a detachably mounted guide pin 17 which engages with its ends in marginal recesses 18 in order to define the limits of movement of said slide 13. In the rearmost position of the slide 13 the guide pin 17 rests against the rear edge of recess 18 and the base limb 25 rests against the rear wall of the pressure plate 15. On lowering and then raising the hand lever 22 the pressure plate 15 is advanced halfway towards the cutting grating and then the base limb 25 slides backwards to rest behind the vertical flank 20 of the tooth 19, and on a further lowering and raising of the hand lever 22 the pressure plate 15 pushes the potato completely through the cutting grating (9) and then the base limb 25 engages flank 27 of the extension 26 and pushes the slide back. More than two ratchet teeth may be provided.
