Abstract

1344271 Sliding seats ETABS BERTRAND FAURE 17 May 1971 [15 May 1970] 15204/71 Heading A4J In order to allow longitudinal adjustment of a vehicle sliding seat and also to allow re-location in the adjusted position after sliding forward therefrom, e. g. to allow access to a rear seat. a slide fixed to the seat moves on a slide fixed to the floor and an intermediate member is engageable with rack teeth on one of the slides and is releasably connected to the other. In the form shown a slide 6 fixed to the seat runs on a fixed slide 1 which carries a C-shaped guide 14 with rack teeth 3 formed on one edge of its gap. A rod 13, with operating handle 12, is rotatable and slidable in the guide 14 and carries a tab 10 which engages the notches of the rack 3 under the action of a torsion spring 11. The slide 6 has pivoted to it on an axis 8 a member 7 with an aperture 9 to engage the tab 10; the member 7 has an inclined end portion 7', and can be lifted by a cable 16 and arm 17 against the action of a spring 15. To set the adjusted position of the slide 6, the rod 13 is rotated to free the tab 10 from the rack and the seat is slid, together with the rod 13, to the required position. To enable the seat to be moved forward freely, the member 7 is lifted clear of the tab 10, which remains in engagement with the rack, and on return movement of the seat the member 7 rides over the tab 10 and becomes engaged with it again. The releasing mechanism 16 for the member 7 may be connected to a tilting back of the seat or to a member which releases the back for tilting, so that back and seat are moved by a single action. In modifications (a) the rack is rotatable with the rod 13. (b) the member 7 is released by transverse movement. (c) the rack may be replaced by a series of holes, or (d) one of the slides may be constituted by two or more pins sliding in a suitable channel in the other.
