Abstract

1,179,639. Electrolytic grinding machine. HAMMOND MACHINERY BUILDERS, Inc. Aug.17, 1967 [Oct.10, 1966], No.37898/67. Heading C7B. An electro-chemical grinding machine comprises an electrically conductive table 1 rotatably supported on a base 8, e. g. by a depending post 2 on the table supported for rotative movement on and by bearings 3 and 4 received inside a hollow boss 7 integral with and extending upwardly from the base, an annular skirt 18 extending downwardly from the table to provide a recess 19, and a current-conducting brush structure, e.g. a plurality of Cu-C brushes 21, positioned radially inside the skirt, e.g. supported in circumferentially spaced cylindrical pockets 23 in an annular brush carrier 22 within the recess, and slideably contacting the underside of the table, the brush structure and table portion contacted thereby being protected by the skirt from the electrolyte used in the electro-chemical operation. The table may be rotated by reciprocable movement of a rack 11 in a guide 12 and engaging an insulating gear 10 secured to the lower end of the post 2. Insulating sleeves 9 and 31 may be interposed between the post and bearings and boss and brush carrier respectively to protect the bearings from electrical corrosion.
