Abstract
1,179,027. Bolting. LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. 17 March, 1967 [18 March, 1966], No. 12662/67. Heading F2H. An hydraulic device mountable on and demountable from a bolted connection for pretensioning and releasing the bolted connection comprises an annular cylinder 15, an annular piston 16 and a threaded plate 17 connected to one end 11 of the bolt 10. The bolt 10 to be tensioned passes through a hole 13 in a flange 14 and the device is particularly suitable in circumstances where there is only a small gap 24 between the top of the bolt and a flange 22. An annular plate 18 is provided so that when fluid is admitted through a line 20 to a chamber 19 below the piston, the piston urges the plates 17, 18 upwards. The nut 12 is then tightened by a pin spanner inserted through arcuate windows 27 and into bores 26. In modifications, the plate 18 is replaced by a second piston and cylinder arrangement and the plate 17 may be screwed to a bolt which engages a threaded recess in the top of the bolt to be tightened. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,078,809.
