Abstract
1,178,143. Coating wires by extrusion. SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 Feb., 1967 [2 March, 1966; 9 April, 1966 (3); 11 June, 1966 (3)], No. 5579/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B2] A mixture of polyethylene or polypropylene or their copolymers with from 1-50 parts by weight of a solvent per 100 parts of polyolefine and containing cross-linking and foaming agents is extruded on to an electrical conductor such as a wire at a temperature below 150 C; subsequently raised above the cross-linking and decomposition temperatures of the respective cross-linking and foaming agents. High density or low density polyethylene or polypropylene may be used. Examples of solvents are octane, toluene, xylene, tetrahydronaphthalene, tetrachloroethane, chlorobenzene, chloronaphthalene, while suitable cross-linking agents are di-α-cumyl peroxide, 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di- (tert - butyl - peroxy) - hexane or 2,5 - dimethyl-2,5-di-(tert-butyl-peroxy)-hexyne-3.
