Abstract

1,176,966. Waveguide joints. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. 30 Aug., 1967 [15 Oct., 1966], No. 39681/67. Heading H1W. An expansion joint for circular waveguides comprises a stack of annular-conical springs 3 located by a conductive or dielectric sleeve 4. The springs have an internal diameter equal to that of the waveguides 1, 2 to be joined and have an axial length small compared with the propagated wavelength. The internal and external edges of the springs are formed by grinding whilst the stack is held compressed to its fullest extent. The internal edges may be plated with copper or silver. Rotation of the springs is prevented by a longitudinal wire (not shown) located in aligned notches in the edges of the springs. The sleeve 4 carries seals 5 and may be sufficiently flexible to allow bending of the joint. The arrangement is intended for H 01 wave propagation.
