Abstract

1,176,824. Propelling rail vehicles. RHEINER MASHINENFABRIK WINDHOFF A.G. 3 March, 1967 [7 March, 1966; 6 Oct., 1966; 31 Jan., 1967], No. 10139/67. Heading B7L. A pusher trolley 5 for moving or shunting rail waggons and which runs on a narrow gauge track 2 lying between the main rails 1 on which the wagon wheels run, the trolley being attached to a traction cable 8 arranged to move it longitudinally of said rails, has first and second pairs of pressure rollers 14, 15 movable outwardly of the trolley from non-operative positions into operative positions whereat one pressure roller of the first pair is located in front of a wagon wheel and a pressure roller of the second pair is located behind the wheel to engage against the wheel periphery, movement of at least one pair of pressure rollers being in response to cam slots 19, 20 or 21, 22 in a control member 17 or 18 provided on the trolley and movable in the longitudinal direction by a control cable 10 so that in moving into the operative position each pressure roller 45 is moved upwardly and also outwardly in a plane normal to the longitudinal direction of the main rails. A guide roller 42 is located in each cam slot 19 and is mounted on a runner assembly 42a attached to one end of a chain 40 passing round a sprocket 23 or 24 fixably mounted on a rotatable shaft 41 mounted on shaft bearers 41a mounted in turn on stub shafts 44 parallel with the main rails, each shaft 41 carrying a pressure roller bearer 27 ... 30 and the other end of the chain 40 being attached to the trolley via a tension spring 47 so that movement of the member 17 caused by tension applied to the control cable 10 which passes around a pulley 12 mounted on the member causes rotation of the members carrying the pressure rollers. In cam slots 20 are located rollers 43 mounted on thrust plates 31 and in cam slots 21 are located guide rollers 43<SP>1</SP> mounted on thrust plates 32. Plates 17, 18 are connected together via a control rod 33 rigidly mounted on plate 17 and having a headed end slidably located in a tube 35 rigidly mounted on plate 18 and a compression spring 34 encompasses rod 33 and is constrained between the head of rod 33 and the end of tube 35. In operation tension is applied to cable 10, moving plate 17 to compress springs 13 and cause the pair of pressure rollers 14 to move outwards into operative position, spring 34 being also compressed. The trolley is now propelled by the traction cable 8 until the rollers 14 engage a pair of wagon wheels, the engagement applying pressure to the rollers so that bearers 27, 28 compress springs adjacent thereto and release a latch 36 so that plate 18 is moved by the compression spring 34 to cause rollers 15 to move outwardly and engage the wheel flanges at the other side to the rollers 14. Tension in cable 8 rises and means (not shown) is provided to halt the winch 9 which is then driven in the opposite direction to move the trolley and wagon. When the wagon has been propelled a desired distance tension is relaxed in cable 10 and the plates 17, 18 are moved by springs 13 to disengage the rollers 14, 15. In a modification, Fig. 9, a single control plate 9 is slidably mounted on the trolley and carries a lug 361 which engages latch 36, the latter being released by a lever 37 when rollers 14 engage the wheels. In a further modification the rollers are moved by a rack and pinion mechanism.
