Abstract

1,176,793. Coated surfaces. G. S. McNAE 17 May, 1967 [22 Feb., 1966], No. 5391/66. Heading B2K. A method of applying a bonded skin or covering to the surface of an article, comprises cleaning and drying the surface if necessary, applying to the surface at least one coat of a liquid resinous priming composition to form an undercoat, applying a piece of fabric to the undercoated surface, applying a liquid resinous bonding composition to the exposed face of the applied piece of fabric, applying a piece of pliable adhesive sheet material to the exposed surface of the applied bonding composition, applying pressure to the exposed face of a piece of pliable adhesive sheet material so as to bring it into close contact with the bonding composition, retaining the said piece of sheet material in place until the bonding composition has become set and then peeling off the said piece of sheet material. The priming operation may be carried out at 80‹F. The fabric may be a glass fibre fabric or woven or knitted textile fabric made from natural or artificial threads, or a mixture of both, or it may be of paper. A suitable undercoat and bonding agent contains an epoxy resin. The adhesive sheet may be embossed to a pattern.
