Abstract

1,176,524. Rolling. SOC NOUVELLE SPIDEM. 4 April, 1967 [22 April, 1967], No. 15474/67. Heading B3M. Apparatus for varying the forces applied on the work roll chocks 45 during rolling or before or after rolling comprises at least one block 6, 6a, 7, 7a fixed to the housing at each side of the Shocks supporting a pivot-pin 10, 10a, 11, 11a of a lever 8, 8a, 9, 9a, one end of which slides in a groove in the chock, the lever being acted upon by jacks to raise and lower the chocks. In one embodiment the levers are pivoted at their centre and one jack 12-15, 12a-15a acts on each side of the pivot to vary the forces between the chocks. A pass adjusting piston 16 is provided and preloading jacks 17, 17a, 18, 18a are positioned between the blocks and the back-up roll chocks 2, 3. In an alternative embodiment the levers 21, 21a, 23, 23a, Fig. 3, are pivoted at their end in blocks 20, 20a and actuated by jacks 27-29, 26a-29a. The rolls of the mill can be changed quickly by supplying fluid to the appropriate jacks to separate the chocks.
