Abstract

1,176,391. Expansion bends; heat-insulated pipes. POWER-GAS CORP. Ltd. 18 Jan., 1967, No. 2659/67. Headings F2G and F2P. A connection between a hot gas heater and a hot gas reactor 3 comprises a plurality of pigtails 21, i.e. U-shaped bends, of high grade heat-resisting metal each connected at one end to the end of one of a plurality of heater outlet or inlet pipes 12 of low grade heat-resisting metal and at the other ends thereof to a header pipe 22 of high grade heat-resisting metal and connected to the reactor. Sets of anchor pieces 15 incorporating high grade heat-resisting metal are connected to each of the pigtails near to those ends thereof connected to the pipes 12 and are arranged to be rigidly connected to the heater in a position relatively to the furnace thereof such that there is negligible differential expansion of the pipes 12 2 externally of the furnace. The header 22 is connected to the reactor 3 by means of a connecting piece 23, a pipe 25 and a branch 24, these components being lined internally with refractory material and the bores thereof are formed by a liner of thin gauge heat-resisting metal; the pipe 25 is supported on a spring support 30. The anchor pieces 15 comprise a tubular member 44 secured to an annular baseplate 46 by which the pieces are attached to a frame 32, the annular space between the member 44 and pigtail 21 being filled by four segments 48 of refractory material divided by lugs 47 attached to the pigtail.
