Abstract

1,176,349. Olefin polymer compositions. IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd., and MINISTER OF TECHNOLOGY. 3 May, 1968 [23 May, 1967], No. 23987/67. Heading C3P. [Also in Division F3] The liner of a rocket motor case comprises a cured elastomer which is a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and a non-conjugated diene, e.g. dicyclopentadiene or cyclooctadiene; and an inert filler, e.g. silica or asbestos fibres or powder. The liner also comprises chlorosulphonated polyethylene and fillers such as lead chloride, heavy metal halides, and calcium and magnesium hydroxides which will decompose at temperatures near to or above the decomposition temperature of the elastomer. The liner can be made from a composition comprising a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and dicyclopentadiene; chlorosulphonated polyethylene; silica powder; lead chloride; and plasticizers, curing agents and accelerators comprising triethanolamine, " Coumarone ", zinc oxide, sulphur, dibenzylthiazyl disulphide, di-phenyl guanidine, and stearic acid. Alternatively, the triethanolamine may be replaced by polyethylene glycol and the dibenzylthiazyl disulphide di-phenyl guanidine and stearic acid may be replaced by mercapto-benz-thiazole, tetramethyl thiuram disulphide and zinc diethyldithiocarbamate.
