Abstract
1,176,177. Swimming doll. A. J. DILEVA. 1 Feb., 1967 [8 Nov., 1966], No. 4974/67. Heading A6S. A buoyant doll has movable limbs and a propulsion motor inside the hollow body to move the limbs in a swimming motion an adjustable steering rudder being fitted adjacent the end of each leg. The motor may be clock spring or electric battery driven, the former type being illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3 in which the motor 28, via a gear train, drives an axle 34 which extends through fluid tight, graphited or oil-charged felt or plastic, bearings 36 and 38; the ends of the axle (42 and 44) being shaped and sized for driving connection with the proximal ends of the arms in the simulated shoulder joints. The coil spring (64) is tightened by turning the handle (70) attached to the operating shaft (68). The electric battery driven doll also contains a removable water-tight panel to allow the battery to be charged and a switch button on the panel controls the motor and battery circuit. Means may be included in either type to manipulate the legs in a swinging up and down simulated swimming motion Figs. 7 and 8, the axle (34') being provided with U-shaped offsets (94 and 96) each of which connects through a ring at one end of a rearwardly extending link (98 and 100) which terminates at a hip joint (102 and 104). A plate (112) is connected to a shaft (110 and 110') so that rotation of the axle (34') produces the corresponding leg movements indicated in Fig. 8. The adjustable steering rudder may be in the form of a snap-on transparent plastic clip comprising a steering rudder and connected adjacent the ankle of each leg, and clothes in the form of trunks and halter. A more advanced embodiment of the whole utilises remote control to start and stop the driving means.
