Abstract

1,176,163. Aerials. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 14 April, 1967 [26 April, 1966], No. 18298/66. Heading H4A. An aerial assembly comprises a rod-shaped body of insulating material, an area or areas of conductive material deposited thereon, and conductive aerial elements extending transversely from the body and making contact with the conductive material thereon. As described, for an aerial of the logarithmically periodic type, a fibre glass tube 1 has on its outer surface two strips 2, 3 of copper, or other conductive metal, which are deposited, for example, by spraying, and are joined at the rear end 4. Dipoles 5, which taper in length towards the front or feed end of the aerial, comprise metal rods or tubes, or fibre glass rods with metal coatings, secured in holes in the tube 1 and in electrical contact with the transmission line formed by the strips 2, 3. The divisions between the strips 2, 3 may be straight (as shown in Fig. 1c), when the halves of each dipole lie in separate parallel planes, or the divisions may be zig-zagged (as shown in Fig. 2) when the halves of the dipoles may be coplanar. The metallic surfaces may have protective coatings of epoxy or polyurethane paint.
