Abstract

1,176,063. Dewaxing oils; hydrofining. GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. 3 May, 1967 [31 May, 1966], No. 20436/67. Heading C5E. A process for producing a bright stock from a lubricating oil base stock derived from a residual material comprises blending the base stock with paraffin wax of the type present in distillate crude lubricating oils and lubricating oil base stocks and then subjecting the blend to solvent dewaxing and hydrofinishing. The wax may be added as slack wax, de-oiled slack wax or a wax-containing distillate fraction which may be derived from the same crude as the residual stock. The dewaxing solvent may be mixed toluene and methyl ethyl ketone. The hydro-finishing may be over GROUP VI or VIII metals, oxides or sulphides, e.g. Ni-Co-Mo on alumina or Ni-W on alumina optionally containing silica.
