117,603. Adt Co., J. B., (Assignees of Adt, J. B.). July 17. 1917, [Convention date]. Continuous-discharge apparatus, rotary.-Relates to rotary apparatus for drying starch and other materials. A drum 1 turning on rollers is fitted with an inner drum 2, steam pipes 3 being arranged between the two. The starch &c. is fed to the drum 2 from a hopper 6, Fig. 3, by a screw conveyer 7, and is lifted during its traverse by blades 4 carried by the drum. The feedhopper is fitted with screens 10 above which work stirrers 11 mounted on a vertical shaft 11<a>. The discharge ends of the drums extend into a stationary chamber 12, Fig. 5, and the inner drum is provided with openings 13. Air heated by passing over steam pipes in a casing disposed below the drums is forced by a fan through a pipe 18<a>, Fig. 3, into the header 5, passes through the space between the drums 1, 2 to the chamber 12, and thence traverses the drum 2 to the hopper 6, where any material carried over is trapped, and escapes by the outlet 9. The steam supply from the pipe 24, Fig. 5, passes through a pipe 21 and branches 21a to the coils 3, returns by pipes 20<a> to a pipe 20 concentric with the pipe 21, and passes through a sleeve 19 and a pipe 25 to the coils of the air-heater from which it is discharged into the atmosphere. The material is discharged through the openings 13 into the chamber 12 from which it is delivered by counterbalanced flaps.
