Abstract

117,560. Leitch, J. W. Nov. 17, 1917. Film evaporators.-Apparatus of the kind in which a film of liquid or semi-liquid material is fed by a roller to a rotating cylinder, and the material is removed by a scraper, as described in Specification 15063/15, [Class 29, Cooling &c.], is provided with an air-tight casing or chamber d enclosing the whole apparatus, so that the operation may be conducted under diminished pressure or in an inert atmosphere. The liquid is supplied through a pipe o to a steam-heated trough and is fed by a grooved roller f to a cooled or heated cylinder a. The solid material is removed by an adjustable scraper k and falls into a hopper l. A screw conveyer m discharges the material through a tube n extending outside the casing, the material becoming packed in the tube n and thereby maintaining the vacuum &c. A connection p to a vacuum pipe and sight doors p' are provided. When noxious material is being treated the connexion p may be plugged with filtering material.
