Abstract

110,737. Hood, A. N. Sept. 11, 1917. Materials forced through tubes. - Materials such as green-curds, sugar-mud &c. are first heated to render them homogeneous and plastic and are then dried by forcing them through heated tubes. The material fed into a hopper 11 is forced by a screw 13 into tubular perforations in a plate 16 and thence passes through tubes 18 mounted in a steam-heated casing 30. The perforations in the plate 16 are reduced in width towards their outlets and the tubes 18 communicate with delivery pipes 29 which are also constricted at the ends. A rotary knife 21 slices the material as it passes into the perforations. The tubes 18 are provided with packing 27 where they pass through the end-plate of the casing to allow for expansion. The pipes 29 are of different lengths so as to deliver the material to a conveyer 39 in separate streams. In some cases, fixed centres 41, Fig. 5, are arranged in the delivery pipes so as to form the material into tubes.
