Abstract

1,174,762. Pellitizing apparatus. ELLIOTT ASSOCIATED DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 12 Dec., 1966 [10 Dec., 1965], No. 52645/65. Heading B5A. An apparatus for pellitizing a substance by dropping the molten substance into a cool liquid with which it is immiscible comprises a vessel 11 containing the liquid fitted with a head 12 and nozzles 13 from which the substance is dropped in discrete drops or a stream. The liquid flows in at 15 and overflows at 16 at the top. An impeller 18 rotated by shaft 19 is provided at the top of the vessel and at least one other impeller 20, 21, 22, 23 suspended by a spider 25 and driven by a submerged motor, or a drive shaft from outside the tank is fitted below the main impeller to provide a longer path for the pellets. Further swirling is produced by injecting the liquid through adjustable nozzles 17 which are normally tangential. The pelletization of sulphur in water is described.
