Abstract

1,174,434. Insulated cables. FUJIKURA CABLE WORKS Ltd. 12 July, 1967 [19 July, 1966; 23 July, 1966; 14 April, 1967], No. 32003/67. Heading H1A. The insulation of an ultra high voltage power cable comprises a helically-wound mica-loaded paper upon which is wound a plastics tape, e.g. of polyethylene, polypropylene or polyethylene terephthalate, coated with an inorganic substance such as fused quartz, mica or kaolin. The inorganic substance may be cemented to one or both surfaces of the plastics tape, or may be heat bonded thereto or vacuum deposited. The cable comprises stranded conductors (3) around a hollow metal portion (2), a semi-conductive layer (4), the insulation (5), a further semi-conductive layer (6), shield (7) and sheath 8 and the cable is impregnated with oil or an inert gas.
