Abstract
117,430. Gilardini, F. Dec. 3, 1917, [Convention date]. Belts.-A leather driving- belt is formed with a number of tanned zones 1 of any design separated by untanned compressed portions 2. The tanned parts provide flexibility and the untanned parts rigidity, strength, and resistance to stretching. The leather is prepared by the following process. The hide is stretched and while under tension is strongly compressed between two perforated gratings. The hide is then tanned through the perforations of the gratings, washed in running water, dried, curried, removed from the frame and subjected to hammering or rolling. The hide is then cut into strips to form belts. By staggering the perforations in the gratings, it may be arranged that a tanned zone on one face of the belt is opposite to an untanned zone on the opposite face. The hide may be subjected, before stretching, to a slight preliminary tanning, preferably mineral. Specification 114,631, [Class 76, Leather], is referred to.
