Abstract

1,174,277. Sewing. SINGER-COBBLE Ltd. 20 May, 1968 [19 April, 1967], No. 17904,167. Heading D1G. Yarn is fed to a tufting machine through spaced stop means 11, 12 in such a way that when the stop 11 is closed yarn is pulled from the supply through the clamp 12 by movement of a displacement member 14 and on return movement of the member 14 the clamp 12 is closed and yarn is pulled out through the clamp 11 to the machine. The reciprocating member 14 may be replaced by a cam and an additional pivotted lever which draws additional yarn in response to a pattern. As seen in a tufting machine (Fig. 3) the reciprocating member 34 moves between clamps 31, 32 and the pattern mechanism is shown at 35. The reciprocal movement of the member 34 is adjustable. The rear end 34d of the member 34 moves between spaced yarn guides 44 on its return movement when the clamp 31 (nearest the yarn supply) is closed and acting on the yarn pulls it from the supply prior to its front end drawing the same amount of yarn between the clamps 31, 32 on the next forward stroke.
