In sheet feeding apparatus wherein each sheet is fed by two spaced suction nozzles 10, the stroke of one of the nozzles can be shortened or lengthened during the operation of the apparatus, so that the front edges of the sheets can be aligned at right-angles to the direction of feed. The nozzle 10 having a variable stroke is adjustably mounted on a rod 9 which is pivoted at the end at 8 to a guide lever 18 freely mounted on a rock shaft 3, and is pivoted at an intermediate point 8 to a rod 13 which is pivoted to a rocker 4 fixed to a rock-shaft 2. A guide slot 15 in the rod 13 has a pivot pin therein which can be moved along the slot by a Bowden cable, and one end of a lever 14 is mounted on the pin, the other end 16 of the lever being pivoted to a rocker 17 fixed on a rock-shaft 3. Thus, when the shafts 2, 3 are rocked by cam means, the nozzle 10 is moved vertically by the shaft 2 and horizontally by the shaft 3, and follows a rectangular path. By the above arrangement, adjustment of the pin in the slot 15 by the Bowden cable has no effect on the forward, sheet-releasing position of the nozzle 10, but in the rearward sheet-taking position shown in Fig. 4, the nozzle position can be varied. The other nozzle 10, Fig. 3 (not shown), is adjustably mounted on a rod 9 which is pivoted at the end 8 to a rocker 12 fixed to the rock-shaft 3, and at an intermediate point 8 to a rod 7 pivoted to a rocker 4 fixed to the rockshaft 2, and has a fixed stroke. In Fig. 2 (not shown), there is a duplicate arrangement of nozzles 10 for feeding sheets from two piles simultaneously. The nozzles 10 can either be used for separating sheets from a pile and forwarding them to other feed means, or for forwarding sheets which have been lifted from a pile by other means.
