Abstract

1,174,256. Axle bearing guides; mounting axles. STANDARD CAR TRUCK CO. 16 Dec., 1966, No. 56519/66. Heading B7L. A railway vehicle sideframe/axle bearing connector in the form of a saddle element 13, Figs. 1 and 2, is movable vertically with sliding clearance in a slot in the side frame 10 for the axle bearing unit 12. The element 13 seats on, partially encompasses and interlocks with the bearing 20, 21, 22 against displacement thereon, by having flanges 27 engaging the ends of the bearing outer race 22. The bearing is secured against axial displacement on the axle journal 19 by a collar 23, cap 25 and seals 24, 26. The element 13 also has side flanges 14 which interlock with the side frame 10 with clearances so as to permit limited movement of the element transversely of the sideframe 10. Load carrying bearing pins 15 are mounted on the flanges 14 and swing hangers 16 depending from the pins 15 are pivoted on bearing pins 17 in lugs 18 projecting from opposite sides of the side frame 10. In another embodiment, the saddle element has a lug engaging between the side walls of the side frame and pivotally supporting an inverted U-shaped swing-hanger connected to a bar bearing the side frame. In further embodiments, the side frame is supported by rollers or springs carried by side flanges of the saddle element.
