1,174,186. Supplying oxygen to rotary furnaces. MESSER GRIESHEIM G.m.b.H. 16 Oct., 1967 [19 Oct., 1966], No. 47050/67. Heading F4B. [Also in Division C7] Copper melt 10, e.g. of scrap, is fire-refined in revolving reverberatory furnace 1 by injection of oxygen 13 below flame 12. The oxygen is supplied through water-cooled lance 4, which travels on carriage 5, and is emitted from downwardly inclined nozzle 6. Flame 12 is derived from gas, pulverized coal, and/or oil. The oxygen first encounters melt 10 by which it is deflected to the lower side of flame 12 which is thereby maintained at a higher temperature than the remainder of the flame.
