Abstract
1,173,973. Automatic feeding arrangement. T. E. JOHNSON and 0. S. SIMON. 23 Oct., 1968 [23 Oct., 1967], No. 48022/67. Heading AIM. [Also in Division B8] Livestock feeding apparatus comprises a belt conveyer 6 overlying a series of feeding stations 2, means 38, 40 at the upstream end of the conveyer to supply feed thereto at a controlled rate, and a driven plough assembly 52 mounted for travel along at least part of the conveyer run. The plough assembly includes a blade 58 extending obliquely across the width of the conveyer belt whereby movement of the blade lengthwise relative to the conveyer run will discharge feed from the swept area into the underlying feeding stations. The plough assembly comprises a trolley 54 attached by a cord to a motor 70 so that in one direction the plough is drawn by the motor against the direction of movement of the belt - in the other direction frictional engagement with the belt carries the plough downstream at a speed governed by the motor 70. Alternatively in one direction the plough may be lifted from the belt. Limit switches effect reversal of the motor 70. Other limit switches may be fitted to vary the feed supplied to different stations etc. Guides, which may be adjustable e.g. Fig. 4 (not shown) deflect the feed into different parts of the feeding stations or stations arranged at both sides of the plough. The plough is backed up by a brush 60.
