Abstract

1,173,814. Mixed soaps. ASSOCIATED LEAD MFRS. Ltd., and D. YOUD. 10 April, 1968 [16 May, 1967], No. 22745/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Mixed soaps of two or more of the metals barium, calcium, strontium, cadmium, zinc, tin, magnesium, lead, are made by heating to 50-60‹ C. an organic solvent for the soaps (B.P. at least 220‹ C.) with the acid constituent of the soap, and adding an oxide, hydroxide or carbonate of two or more of the above metals. The mixture is heated to boil off the water to yield a solution of the mixed soap. Mixed acid constituents may be used such as branched chain synthetic acids, naphthenic, substituted salicylic, benzoic, subs. benzoic, propyl and p-octyl phenol and a non-volatile aliphatic C 7-18 alcohol may be included to reduce the viscosity and act as an anti-foaming agent. Examples describe the preparation of bariumcadmium soaps of 3-5 diisopropyl salicylic acid; zinc-barium, cadmium-barium, lead-strontium, and lead-cadmium, soaps of a branched chain acid. The solutions may be used to stabilize polyvinyl chloride compositions.
