1278368 Piperidinyl - carbinol derivatives SMITH KLINE & FRENCH LABORATORIES 6 Oct 1970 [8 Oct 1969] 47372/70 Heading C2C Novel compound I in which R 1 is H, CH 3 or Cl and R 2 -R 4 are H or OH, at least one being OH, and their salts are prepared by methods illustrated in the following reaction sequence. Intermediates isolated are the compounds shown in the reaction sequence above and 2-chloroprotocatechualdehyde, prepared by reaction of 2-chloro-isovanillin with BBr 3 ; and 2-chloro- 3,4 dibenzyloxy - benzaldehyde, prepared by reaction of 2-chloroprotocatechualdehyde with benzyl chloride. Pharmaceutical compositions with use as #- adrenergic stimulants comprise a compound I together with a suitable carrier or diluent.
