In a shell type needle bearing comprising a shell 1 and an assembly of rollers 2 disposed in the shell, the shell includes an arcuate portion in which the rollers only occupy part of the periphery of the shell. As described the shell is semicylindrical. The rollers may have spherical ends or trunnion ends which are mounted in recesses provided in the axial ends of the shell, and may also be mounted in a cage 3 disposed in the shell. The rollers may be retained within the shell by means of a plastic insert 4 fitted on the inner surface of the shell, or by a projection provided on the inner axial edges of the shell.
