Abstract

1,172,684. Thermal storage heaters. UNWIN, DYER & UNWIN Ltd. 26 Oct., 1967 [3 Nov., 1966], No. 49323/66. Heading F4U. Expanded fired clay is used as the thermal storage medium in unit storage heaters or in storage heating systems incorporated in the walls or floors of a building. The medium may be particulate, with a surface porosity lower than its internal porosity. The particulate material may be mixed with cement to form storage blocks. Electric heating elements surrounded by ceramic sleeves are employed. Preferred densities and particle sizes for the storage medium are disclosed.
