Abstract

1,172,516. Terpenic esters. A. BOAKE, ROBERTS & CO. Ltd. 1 March, 1967 [1 Dec., 1965], No. 51023/65. Heading C2C. Terpenic esters are prepared by reacting myrcene with an aliphatic carboxylic acid (at least 2 C atoms) in the presence of an anti. oxidant and in the absence of oxygen and strong acids. The mixture may be heated and conventional antioxidants are listed. The myrcene may be from the thermal isomerization of #-pinene and may include dipentene. A limit of 10<SP>-3</SP> moles of strong acid (Ka greater than 5 x 10<SP>-3</SP>) is specified and the preparation of geranyl and neryl acetates is exemplified.
