Abstract

1,172,458. Safety harness. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 9 June, 1967, No. 26663/67. Heading A3V. [Also in Division E2] A motor vehicle is provided with a hollow space 23 between outer and inner members, an aperture in one of the members to give access to the hollow space, a retainer clip 17 located in the aperture and a seat belt, an end of which when not in use is insertable into the hollow space to be resiliently retained by the clip. In the construction shown the two members are parts of the roof of the motor vehicle the outer member being a roof panel 1 and the inner member consisting of an outer part 3 and an inner part 5 and the aperture 16 being formed in the inner part 5. The clip 17 is made of a resilient plastics material and comprises a body having an out-turned flange 25 which engages the surface of the part 5 remove from the space 23. The body has two arms 19 a base 21 and two ends and the arms 19 are each formed with a pair of barbs 27 on the outer surface, the barbs tapering towards the base 21 so that shoulders 29 are formed adjacent the flange 25; the barbs retain the clip in the aperture. Each arm is formed with a U- shaped slit to define a tongue 31 the tongues each having a rounded projection 33 which extend inwardly towards the other projection so that an aperture of a buckle part 35 forming an end of the hilt when inserted into the clip is engaged by the tongues, the projections 33 entering the aperture.
